In time, the Municipality of Groningen has new construction plans for the Vrydemalaan location. Nijestee has therefore taken the decision to remove the studios at Vrydemalaan 12 to 700 in phases at the end of 2025 / beginning of 2026. As there are many studios involved, we have decided to do the demolition in two phases:

  • Vrydemalaan 12 to 424 (Block A , B, C): by 1 November 2025
  • Vrydemalaan 426 to 700 (Block D, E): per 5 January 2026

We realise that demolishing your studio is a drastic message. For you, it will have major consequences, as you will have to move to another property. A distinction is made here for residents with indefinite and fixed-term rental contracts. You can read more information below.

 

Open-ended lease
From 1 July 2024 (Block A, B, C) or from 1 September 2024 (Block D, E), the Social Plan for Neighbourhood Renewal will start for residents with an indefinite rental contract. Check www.nijestee.nl/sociaal-plan to see what this means. It tells you what we are doing to help and what you are entitled to. For example, if you terminate your tenancy from the effective date of the Social Plan, you are entitled to a removal allowance and an urgency for WoningNet.

It is important that you are registered on WoningNet before the effective date of the Social Plan. Because on that date we will give you an urgency on your account in WoningNet. This urgency allows you to search for a new home and gives you priority over other house seekers for 16 months.

 

Fixed-term lease
From 1 March 2023, new tenants of the studios on Vrydemalaan will be given a temporary lease until we demolish the studios in 2025/ 2026. Residents on temporary leases are not eligible for the Neighbourhood Renewal Social Plan.
